John David Leather, 84, of Middletown, NJ passed away on March 22, 2024. He was born in Jersey City, NJ and lived in Middletown for over 50 years. John joined the United States Marine Corps. after graduating from St. Peter's Prep High School. He then attended and graduated from St. Peter's College in 1964, earning a Bachelor's Degree in English.He later earned his Master's Degree in English Literature from Seton Hall University.

John entered the Army Reserves, in which he served for over twenty years, retiring as a CW3 (Warrant Officer 3). For most of John's civilian career he worked as a computer programmer in New York, NY and in Newark, NJ. John was a member of Mensa, he loved animals, vegetable gardening, books, traveling and, most of all, his family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his intellect and his quiet, kind nature.

Surviving are his two sons, Sean Henry Leather and Timothy George Leather; daughter Meg Elizabeth (George R.) Reid; two grandchildren, Hannah Rose Reid and Ian George Reid; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Leather; brothers James H. Leather and Peter Thomas Leather and parents George and Sabina Leather.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 26, 2024, 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown.

A funeral Mass will be offered Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at 11 am at the Church of St. Anselm, 1028 Wayside Road, Tinton Falls.
